1907. Harold Tyler Blethen Jr
H. Tyler Blethen, Jr., of Marion, died at Royal Cape Cod Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Buzzards Bay on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 after a long illness. He was 93. Born in Lisbon Falls Maine, the son of the late Evelyn (Gould) Small and Harold Tyler Blethen, Sr., he lived in New Bedford until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II . He served four years of active duty aboard the destroyer USS John D. Ford. (DD 228). After the war, Mr. Blethen lived in Marion and was manager for Cornwell's Department Store and the Cornwell Memorial Chapel in Wareham. He was a member of St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church and the Men's Fellowship in Marion where he volunteered for the soup kitchen, Meals on Wheels and the food pantry. Tyler was actively engaged in Marion town affairs for many years and maintained a lifelong interest in sailing his sloop, Windstar in Buzzards Bay waters with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Winifred (Gibbs) Blethen; two sons, Tyler Blethen, III and his wife Deborah of Sylva, NC and Thomas Wendell Blethen of Taunton; his grandson, Andrew Tyler Blethen and his wife Robin and great grandson, Bailey Blethen all of NC. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church, Front St., Marion on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be private. Visiting hours have been omitted.
