1661. Burleigh Porter Blethen

BLETHEN, BURLEIGH P., 80, of Tampa, died Monday (July 25, 2005) at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, Tampa. He was born in Waterville, Maine, and served in the Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He moved to Tampa in 1995 from Fort McClellan, Calif. He was a Mason. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Gisela of Tampa; six sons, Philip, Sacramento, Calif., Dana, Cummings, Ga., Craig and Brad, both of Sarasota, Troy, Harrisburg, Pa., and Michael Doos of Springfield, Mo.; five brothers, Basil, Harpswell, Maine, Parker, Sidney, Maine, Floyd, Lovettsville, Va., and Roger and Stacey, both of Tampa; two sisters, Edith Ladd, Belfast, Maine, and Mildred Algeri, Lake Worth; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 1663. Basil Wilton Blethen

Basil W. Blethen, 84, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Woodlawn Nursing Center in Skowhegan. He was born on Nov. 30, 1927, in Thorndike, the son of George P. and Annie Blethen.
He was a veteran serving in theArmy and Merchant Marine. He worked for Central Maine Power Co. as a lineman and then as a dispatcher, retiring in 1984. Basil married Julia M. (Oakes) August 1952, and she died in 2004. Over the years, he had many interests and hobbies and loved hunting, fishing, lobstering, digging clams, spending time with family, and especially loved playing with his grand-, great-, and great-great-grandkids.
Basil was a member of the Rural Masonic Lodge No. 53 A.F. & A. M. in Sidney, 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Body in Augusta and Portland, and a member of the Kora Temple Shrine of Lewiston.
Basil is survived by his daughter, Barbara Chubbuck, and husband Fred of Benton; two grandsons, Chris Pelletier and wife Tracy of Oakland, and Basil Marson of Waterville; two granddaughters, Julie Courtney and husband Amos of North Anson, and Shelli-Jo Pelletier of Waterboro; five great-granddaughters, Kyra Pelletier of Oakland, Katrina Pelletier of Oakland, Lindsey Fisher of Sidney, Annie Rowe of Starks, and Deborah Rowe of Madison; three great-great-granddaughters, Patience Rowe of Starks, Gracylyn Rowe of Starks, and Roza Rowe of Madison; and one great-great-grandson, Andrew Rowe of Starks.
A celebration of life will be held from11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Universalist Church, Easy Street, Pittsfield.

BLETHEN, JULIA, 68, of Aripeka, died Wednesday (March 24, 2004) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Brooksville. Born in Montville, Maine, she came here six years ago from Maine and was Protestant. Survivors include her husband, Basil; two daughters, Susan Kinsey, Waterville, Maine, and Barbara Chubbock, Brenton, Maine; two brothers, Allan Oakes, Zephyrhills, and Floyd Oakes, Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Audrey Carson, Knox, Maine, and Beverly Rollins, Pittsfield, Maine; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 2015. Joan Middleton Blethen

Joan graduated from Clover Park High School in Lakewood, WA in 1951 and from the University of California at Berkeley in 1971. A fierce advocate for human rights, Joan was employed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for more than 33 years as an investigator and mediator.
