John Davis was a moulder by trade and afterwards founder of Eagle Stove Foundry, Fall River, Massachusetts, manufacturing stoves, ranges and sinks for a quarter of a century.
Sarah B. Davis was born in Fall River circa 18.59, the daugh-ter of John and Hope A. (Bliffin) Davis. Alifelong resident ofthe city of her birth, she was likely educated in Fall River andresided all of her life in the old Bliffin homestead in the SteepBrook section of the city. First listed in the Fall River CityDirectories in 1899, she was employed as a bookkeeper until1908, at which time she first entered the millinery businesswith a shop on North Main Street. Nothing is known abouther success save the fact that she remained in business, at thesame address, for nine years, retiring in 1917. She died at herNorth Main Street residence in 1921 following an illness ofabout one year. One can only surmise from the fine quality ofher work evident in this hat that she must have been patron-ized by a prominent clientele who appreciated her ability tocreate millinery of exquisite style and craftsmanship
